The Via Eurasia app redesign focuses on enhancing the user experience for hikers and cultural explorers. By collaborating with the Culture Route Society, we aimed to create an intuitive, interactive platform that connects users to the trail’s rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. The redesign improves accessibility, navigation, and engagement, making exploration more seamless and meaningful.
The redesign aimed to address usability challenges and enhance the overall experience for explorers. By integrating modern design principles and user-centered solutions, we sought to provide a more intuitive, interactive platform that fosters a deeper connection with the trail.

The app’s “Home” page is currently uninviting, resembling a legal document. Move sponsor logos and related information to the “About” page, and reorganize the layout of the “About” page to make it visually appealing.
Once all legal text and sponsor logos are removed from the “Home” page, design a new logo and create an impactful “Welcome” page to replace the current “Home” page.
Replace the “Check Before You Go” page with a new menu that includes the same three button topics: Route Updates, Weather, and Guide Book.
The app’s brand typeface is Inter, which should not be changed. However, you may adjust the text size and weight on each page to establish a clearer hierarchy and improve accessibility.
While not every frame requires a complete redesign, all frames should be improved for accessibility. For example, retain the layout for pages like “Routes,” “Route Detail,” or “Points of Interest” but update the brand colors to ensure they meet accessibility standards.
The Via Eurasia app faced several usability challenges that hindered its effectiveness. Users found the navigation complex, with an overwhelming number of unnecessary screens that created confusion and frustration. The static features lacked interactivity, limiting engagement and failing to meet the expectations of modern users. Additionally, the app’s outdated design and inconsistent branding diminished its visual appeal, lacking cohesive color schemes and style guidelines to reinforce its identity.
The redesign focused on streamlining the user journey by simplifying navigation and removing redundant screens, creating a more intuitive and cohesive experience. Interactive elements like dynamic maps and personalized suggestions were introduced to make the app more engaging and user-centric. The visual design was overhauled with a fresh, modern aesthetic, incorporating a consistent color palette anchored by the trail’s signature #5EDFFF, alongside clean typography and cohesive branding. The result is a functional, visually appealing app that reflects the spirit of Via Eurasia while meeting the needs of today’s users.
TThe user of the Via Eurasia app is a tech-savvy traveler seeking a seamless and efficient way to plan and navigate their journey across Eurasian countries. They value convenience, real-time information, and a user-friendly experience to access transportation options, cultural insights, and local services.
The user goal for the app is to provide a comprehensive, easy-to-navigate platform that offers personalized travel routes, real-time updates, and culturally relevant content, enabling users to explore Eurasia with confidence, flexibility, and minimal friction. The app should aim to enhance the travel experience by simplifying logistics, providing local tips, and ensuring smooth transitions between countries and regions.
User-Centered Approach: Focus on solving user pain points, such as navigation issues, real-time updates, and cultural content.
Lean UX: Emphasize rapid iteration, collaboration, and feedback loops to create a simpler, more efficient user experience with minimal waste.
What Users Want: Prioritize ease of use, personalization, seamless cross-border functionality, and quick access to travel details (routes, updates, culture).
Prototyping & Testing: Quickly prototype and test key features to validate concepts before full development.
I redesigned the Via Eurasia logo from footprints to a compass with green mountains and a blue upside-down mountain to better symbolize the journey and diverse landscapes of Eurasia. The compass represents navigation and exploration, while the green mountains reflect the region's rich natural landscapes, and the blue, upside-down mountain signifies the contrast of icy terrains and seas. This new design conveys a sense of adventure, connectivity, and the dynamic, varied nature of the Eurasian travel experience, making it both visually distinctive and meaningful.
Logo Variants:
Having two variants of the redesigned Via Eurasia logo—one with a blue compass (#00CCFF)and another with a darker grey compass(#034150)—allows for flexibility in branding across different contexts.
The blue compass evokes a sense of trust, adventure, and exploration, making it ideal for digital platforms or marketing materials that aim to inspire wanderlust.
The darker grey compass, on the other hand, provides a neutral, professional tone suitable for official documents, partnerships, or understated branding needs.
Minimalist & Intuitive: Use a clean, modern design with simple icons, clear typography, and an easy-to-follow layout.
